John R. Butler is the Supervising Attorney for the Access to Counsel in Evictions Program at Maryland Legal Aid in Baltimore County. He graduated from Savannah Law School in 2017 and holds a degree in History from the University of Maryland, College Park, earned in 1982. John's previous experience includes serving as a local news editor for The Washington Post from 1983 to 1992, owning, publishing, and editing The Bryan County Times newspaper from 1993 to 2001, working as a city planner for Pembroke, Georgia from 2001 to 2004, and serving as a development planner for the Savannah/Chatham County Metropolitan Planning Commission from 2005 to 2017. His work is inspired by a passion to leave the world a better place than he found it. Outside of work, John enjoys landscaping, travel, target shooting, and fine dining.
