How to Take a Case

Step 01

Search

Search for available cases by using a practice area, legal issue, Maryland County, or keyword. An example of a keyword search can include words like "Veteran", "Single Mother", "Children", or "Elderly". You can also use the quick filter option under the search box to find a case that matches your interests and expertise.

Step 02

Select

Once you find a case that matches your interests and expertise, select Case Details for more information about the case. Complete the I'm Interested contact form, then select submit. A Maryland Legal Aid staff member will be notified of your interest in the case.

Step 03

Communicate

A Maryland Legal Aid staff member will contact you within 48 hours with the Client's name, Adverse Party's name, and any further information you may need to complete a conflicts check. You will also receive information regarding Maryland Legal Aid's professional liability insurance, legal training opportunities and options for mentorship, if needed.

Step 04

Help

Thank you for providing essential legal assistance to a vulnerable Marylander. You are making a huge difference in their life. Maryland Legal Aid appreciates your commitment to bridging the access to justice gap.
