Karim Merchant as its new Chief Development and Communications Officer. Karim brings extensive experience in fundraising, philanthropy, advocacy, and communications, having previously served as the Senior Executive Officer at The Arc, where he led strategies to support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. His career spans leadership roles at the Cancer Support Community, the world’s largest professionally-led nonprofit network of cancer support, and the Aga Khan Foundation USA, where he raised nearly $14 million annually to strengthen communities in Asia and Africa. A former corporate finance attorney at Baker & McKenzie, Karim combines strategic insight with a passion for advancing social impact. He holds a J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law and a B.A. in Economics and Spanish from Vanderbilt University, and serves on the Board of Trustees of Excelsior University, where he chairs the Institutional Advancement Committee. Karim lives in Rockville, Maryland, with his husband and their two children.
