Maryland Legal Aid offices handle employment cases which involve enforcing a client’s right to work (including removal of work barriers), enforcing the right to just and favorable working conditions, and protecting against unemployment.  Our local offices also handle cases to secure the right to legal wages, ensuring for the worker and the worker’s family an existence worthy of human dignity.  Our advocates also work on behalf of clients to insure the right of workers to take actions with co-workers to improve the terms and conditions of their employment and to ensure the right to organize.

Typical cases Maryland Legal Aid handles include:

  • Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) violations;
  • Preservation of employment limited to Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) violations and unpaid wages cases;
  • Non-payment of correct wages or overtime under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) or under state law;
  • Unemployment Insurance cases;
  • Farmworker cases.
