Jeff Dier, Director of Advocacy for
Elder Law and Health Care

Jeff Dier joined Maryland Legal Aid on June 1 as the new Director of Advocacy for Elder Law and Health Care in the Statewide Advocacy Support unit. Jeff comes to the organization with over 35 years of experience with the Legal Services Division of the Baltimore City Department of Social Services, where he handled cases involving adult guardianships, termination of parental rights, adoptions, civil protective hearings regarding abused and neglected children and adults, and civil discovery hearings. He has conducted over 2,500 bench trials and has extensive experience in administrative hearings, jury trials, and appeals. Jeff also authored and assisted in the passage of five Maryland laws to expedite permanency planning for foster children and streamline decision making for public wards.

Jeff is a recognized expert on end-of-life decision making and was a member of the office management team at the Legal Services Division that oversaw 25 attorneys and 50 support staff. He served as Deputy Chief of the division for five years.
