National Bar Association’s Gertrude Rush Awards
The National Bar Association held its 37th Annual Mid-Year Conference March 30-April 1 in Washington, D.C. The conference wrapped up on April 1 with the Gertrude E. Rush Awards Dinner held at the Willard InterContinental Hotel in Washington, D.C.

Maryland Legal Aid Staff Attorney Aaron DeGraffenreidt, Alicia Wilson, Vice President for Community Affairs and Legal Advisor for Sagamore Development Company, and Maryland Legal Aid’s Executive Director Wilhelm Joseph, Jr. at the Gertrude Rush Awards Dinner on April 1.

MIE 2017 National Conference for Legal Services Managers
The Management Information Exchange (MIE) held its 2017 National Conference for Legal Services Managers April 6-7 in New Orleans. A few managers from Maryland Legal Aid attended the conference.Topics included tips on effective time management, how to delegate responsibilities, and designing a performance management system.

43rd Annual Audrey Robbins Humanitarian Awards 
The 43rd Annual Audrey Robbins Humanitarian Awards luncheon was held at the Ten Oaks Ballroom in Clarksville, MD on April 5. This award is presented by the Association of Community Services of Howard County and recognizes the service that volunteers and employees provide to others.

 

Paralegal Barbara Coleman from Maryland Legal Aid’s Montgomery County office was a 2011 recipient of the Audrey Robbins Humanitarian Award as Employee of the Year.

Maryland Legal Aid’s Executive Director Wilhelm Joseph, Jr., Paralegal Briana Morris and Chief Attorney Blake Fetrow, both from Maryland Legal Aid’s Metropolitan Maryland office at the Audrey Robbins Humanitarian Awards Luncheon.

National Crime Victims’ Rights Week
In recognition of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week (April 2-8, 2017), the Family Crisis Center in Brentwood, MD held an outreach event on Saturday, April 10. The Family Crisis Center (not to be confused with the Family Justice Center (above) where Cheryl Chado works) promotes and facilitates the elimination of domestic violence by providing counseling, education and support services to men, women and children.

 

Staff Attorneys Cheryl Chado and Meghan Burns from Maryland Legal Aid’s Metropolitan Maryland office participated by providing information to people from the community, as well as other service providers, and speaking briefly to attendees about the different types of services and programs that Maryland Legal Aid provides.
