PBRC’s Run for Justice
Staff from Maryland Legal Aid teamed up to participate in the Pro Bono Resource Center’s (PBRC) Run for Justice on June 10 at the NCR Trail in Cockeysville, MD. Proceeds from the run support free legal services for people in need.
Outreach in Baltimore County
On June 10, Chief Attorney Janine Scott from Maryland Legal Aid’s Baltimore County office attended a town hall event at Morningside Baptist Church. Janine participated in a discussion about issues facing the community and distributed information about Maryland Legal Aid’s programs and services. Event speakers included Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz, Senator Ben Cardin, and former NAACP President Benjamin Jealous. Janine shared, “This event was a great opportunity to showcase Maryland Legal Aid and to highlight all of the good work that we do to serve our community.”
On June 17, Chief Attorney Janine Scott and Senior Staff Attorney Mary Aquino from Maryland Legal Aid’s Baltimore County office attended the 2nd Annual Family Fun Day at Gwynn Oak Park sponsored by the Security-Woodlawn Business Association. Janine and Mary distributed information to attendees about Maryland Legal Aid’s programs and services. The event was well attended and Janine and Mary met state delegates Charles Sydnor III and Pat Young. To top it off, Mary won a raffle for a bouquet of flowers!
MSBA Annual Meeting
The Maryland State Bar Association (MSBA) hosted its Annual Meeting in Ocean City, MD June 14-17. Maryland Legal Aid staff participated in conference activities and attended sessions on a variety of legal topics. Attendees stopped by Maryland Legal Aid’s information table during the conference for a chance to win prizes and learn more about our programs and services.
Maryland Legal Aid also received a check for $5,000 from the MSBA as a special grant to support legal programs and services aimed at Marylander’s low-income communities.
ABC Annual Gala
The Associated Black Charities (ABC) held its annual gala on June 10 at Martin’s West in Baltimore. The theme for this year’s gala was “A Caribbean Affair,” where guests were encouraged to wear a splash of color. ABC is a public foundation that advocates and facilitates the creation of healthier and more prosperous communities through responsible leadership and philanthropic investment throughout the State. ABC serves as the fiscal agent for Maryland Legal Aid’s Ryan White grant.
