Holiday Giving Program
Each year, the Baltimore City Child Advocacy Unit coordinates the Holiday Giving Program with the goal of collecting food, toys and clothing for abused and neglected children in need.
This year, the Program was able to serve 133 children! Maryland Legal Aid appreciates the contributions from individual and corporate sponsors, including Stanley Black & Decker, Hord Coplan Macht, Jubilee Baltimore, The Hatcher Group (Baltimore City Office), and Elville
and Associates. Sandra Harrison, Paralegal and coordinator of the Holiday Giving Program shared, “Each year, people become so excited about helping families who are facing challenges; it gives them joy [to help].”
Coats and Clinics
In addition to the Holiday Giving Program, Maryland Legal Aid partnered with Clothes4Souls, an international charitable organization dedicated to fighting poverty, to distribute new Macy’s coats to children and adults in need. The coats were donated by Macy’s through its
“Buy 1 & We’ll Give 1” campaign to Clothes4Souls.
Maryland Legal Aid and community partners including St. Peter Claver Catholic Church,
Enoch Pratt Free Library-Waverly Branch, No Boundaries Coalition, Baltimore Police Department-Western District, and Children in Need, Inc., hosted three separate Coats and Clinics events in Baltimore City (Dec. 13 & 21) and Hagerstown (Dec. 19). Children and adults tried on and took home new coats while financially eligible adults received free civil legal advice and criminal record expungements.
