On October 31, the Equal Justice Council held its Seventh Annual Managing Partners' Meeting to showcase the annual fundraising campaign for contributions to Maryland Legal Aid by the area's law firms and other corporate entities. This year's event was hosted by Miles & Stockbridge and brought together more than 30 senior representatives of Maryland law firms who received valuable information on Maryland Legal Aid's work over the past year and the challenges the organization faces.

Director of Advocacy for Elder Law and Health Care Jennifer Goldberg and Long Term Care Assistance Project Staff Attorney Emily Jaskot made presentations regarding the impact of the new Affordable Care Act on our clients and provided case examples of the assistance provided to clients in the long-term care arena.. The event's featured speaker was Stephen H. Sachs, former Maryland Attorney General, who discussed the efforts undertaken by him and others, as well as the need, to establish a civil right to counsel. Mr. Sachs encouraged the participants to give generous financial support to Maryland Legal Aid. To sum up the success of the meeting, Executive Director Wilhelm Joseph said, "The campaign received a solid, foundational boost this morning. Hopefully, our attendees left with helpful information, inspiration and enhanced desire to support the cause."
