Maryland Volunteer Lawyers Service MVLS is a nonprofit that matches volunteer lawyers with clients who need legal help (and meet income eligibility requirements). The lawyers provide free representation to assist with civil legal needs. MVLS also represents children and nonprofits. National Center for Youth Law A private, non-profit law office serving the legal needs of children and their families. National Consumer Law Center The National Consumer Law Center is the nation's consumer law expert, helping consumers, their advocates, and public policy makers to use powerful and complex consumer laws to assure justice for vulnerable, low income Americans. National Health Law Program The National Health Law Program is a national public interest law firm that seeks to improve health care for America's working and unemployed poor, minorities, the elderly and people with disabilities. NHeLP serves legal services programs, community-based organizations, the private bar, providers and individuals who work to preserve a health care safety net for the millions of uninsured or underinsured low-income people. National Housing Law Project The National Housing Law Project is a national housing and legal advocacy center established in 1968 to provide specialized legal assistance on housing and urban development issues to attorneys working for the then newly created legal services program. Since then, NHLP has expanded its mission to advance housing justice for poor people by increasing and preserving the supply of decent, affordable housing; by improving existing housing conditions, including physical conditions and management practices; by expanding and enforcing low-income tenants' and homeowners' rights; and by increasing housing opportunities for racial and ethnic minorities. National Senior Citizens Law Center The National Senior Citizens Law Center advocates nationwide to promote the independence and well-being of low-income elderly individuals and persons with disabilities. People's Law Library The Peoples Law Library is a joint effort by the 28 nonprofit legal services providers in Maryland that help low and moderate-income persons without charge. Sargent Shriver National Center on Poverty Law The Sargent Shriver National Center on Poverty Law, a national resource, champions law and policy promoting equal opportunity and support for low-income individuals, families, and communities so that they can escape poverty permanently. |
